Melbourne’s heating up as summer is fast approaching and the SAU Victoria boys and girls enjoyed their yearly show and shine under the sun in South Yarra’s Como Park.
With nearly twice the amount amount of cars enter compared with last years event things are really on the rise for the club, with a strong focus on motorsport and club racing days the members of SAU relished at the opportunity to sit on the grass, relax and talk rubbish about cars all day.

The cars on show were flawless, with everything from R32’s to a single R35 on display the variety of Melbourne’s Skylines were very well presented from the street cars right to the track cars.

The cars were arranged in a large circle with the single R35 in the dead center all the other Skylines seemingly ganged up on their porky younger brother.

There is a large amount of sibling rivalry going on here in this picture, every time we post a picture on our Facebook page showing these two cars together the comments start flowing… Why can’t we all just get along?

It was a fantastic sight to all the different generations mixed together despite the lack of older generations, no R31’s or any classic models made it along for the show.
Here’s hoping for next year!

With Skylines easily being the most popular import amongst Japanese motoring enthusiasts it’s sometimes hard to get excited by seeing a large group of them together but rest assured these aren’t your average ‘P’ plater Skylines you see 10 of on your way home from work…

… Nope these owners are your true Skyline connoisseurs, these cars have been meticulous cared for with careful choices of modifications and maintenance while in the hands of SAU Victoria club members.

If you look carefully enough you will see a few trademark call signs popular among the younger generation like this Domo ‘drift charm’ hanging underneath this stunning Lightning Yellow R34 GT-R.

Now SAU Vic is a big club, so big that members stay involved long after they have moved on from owning their own Nissan Skyline. Even new members who don’t even own a Skyline are welcome to join the fun and attend track days and show’s like this one.
One of the friendliest clubs operating in Australia!

However with fitment and wheels as good as this on an ‘invading’ car I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a bit of unfriendly feelings between members, especially when there is $1000’s worth of prizes up for grabs!!

Another highlight of the non-Skyline entrants was Jason’s Toyota Supra, clean factory lines with plenty of carbon fiber additions!

With no expense spared under the bonnet… Just check out the JDM air box!!

There was an impressive amount of R32’s ranging from daily driven to track prepped GT-R’s.

Without all the usual frantic pace and noise of the racetrack these members took the opportunity to just sit in the grass and take in all the Skyline glory on show, lunch was catered for with the largest order of Pizza’s we have ever seen!

After lunch it was time for club president John Richardson to hand out some give aways, with heaps of merch from the team here at GSS he was standing there for sometime throwing stickers and lanyards into the crowd!

The cars on show were judged by a top panel of members and guest, the winners won’t be announced until the last SAU Vic event for the year in December so stay tuned as we will update this post with the results.

The crowd favorite was easily Daniel’s Nur Spec R34, with it’s killer looks and ingenious duel fuel system that detects the amount of ethanol in the fuel changing the ecu map on the fly allowing him to run E85 and RON98!

This R33 is one of the usual suspects at the regular SAU Deca days in Shepperton, nothing like a clean car that gets to see a bit of track action.

Evo’s seem to be quite popular amongst members given their ability at the track we expect there will be a few more joining soon.

Our favorite ‘invader’ had to be Manoj’s E46 M3 BMW coupe.

Dropped on Varrstoen 1.1.2 wheels the car has a nice look with a truck load of carbon accessories thrown at it!

With the best badge replacement we’ve ever seen too!

Joey’s GT-R is one of the cleanest R32 going around although this white BNR32 stole our hearts a few months ago when we first saw it on it’s gold BBS wheels.

The Zero Clearance boys and their S13’s were there with what seemed like the largest media group I’ve seen at an event like this so expect plenty of coverage from those guys.

Speaking of media the SAU Vic boys go above and beyond and even have their own you tube channel “SAU VIC TV“, with regular updates with all of the clubs shenanigans.

This was one of the best R33’s on display, we loved the dual exhaust setup that suits this shape to the T!!
The large exhaust is necessary…

… Thanks to this breathing RB26 complete with clear cam cover and plenty of go fast bits… And blue don’t forget a lot of cool blue bits!
The radiator setup and overflow tank was incredible, this ‘SNISTR’ GT-R was a complete package!

On show was even a few 4 door R34’s!
Defiantly not as popular as the coupe we would love to see someone go all out with one of these here in Australia, big fat wheels, engine transplant and a unique colour to finish it off!
Someone needs to step up to the plate!!

One of the most iconic paint jobs for any Skyline is of course Bayside Blue, followed closely by Midnight Purple.
To our surprise we didn’t spot any Midnight Purple GT-R’s at the show!

There was heaps of ‘popped’ bonnets with owners showing of their pride and joy, it was rare sight to see a 100% original engine bay in this mix of cars.
With simple additions to all out performance builds these guys enjoy their horse power!

Inside every car was a host of electronic meters and gauges, it became a fun game spotting all the boost controllers, air fuel meters and every other enhancement available from the land of the rising sun.

We still can’t decide whats more awesome in this picture… The old school Supra or the amazing Totoro hat with built in pockets!!

We went a bit crazy spotting all the expensive mods some of these Skylines had, modifying one these is definitely not for the fain hearted (or financially challenged).
Tucked behind these Volk wheels are some massive Endless brake calipers and discs ensuring this 1,500Kg war horse can stop on a dime!

The show came to an end in the early afternoon and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!
The boys and girls from SAU Vic are some of the friendliest enthusiasts we have come across in our time running GSS.
Be sure to join up and become a member to get involved with future track days and meets.

The World Time Attack Challenge is one of the largest events of it’s kind and happens to have so much going on it needs several post for us just to give you a glimpse of what you may have missed.
In the skid pan area of Eastern Creek Raceway some of Sydney’s best street cars came out to strut their stuff on the final day of the WTAC.

From full blown magazine cars with custom airbrushing to mad street cars like this tough little Toyota Corona, this exactly the kind of thing we love to see.
This would have looked right at home in version of Mad Max!

Built to Order brought some truly awe inspiring cars with them, from this hoping Lincoln Town car…

To this mold breaking EG Civic hatch, with some interesting colour choices and some of the best attention to detail we have ever seen.

Have you ever been beating at the lights by a Honda with pink wheels?
You might be surprised when you pull up next to this little Civic, BuiltToOrder.co didn’t just pay attention to the outside when building this car.
They threw in a K20 engine for good measure too!

There was also another EG Civic with a slightly simpler approach but still just as much of a head turner!
With a paint job in a light cola brown and some wicked little 15″ wheels this car looked mean.

Another Honda with it’s ‘A’ game on, this newer EK hatch had some very impressive BBS RS wheels.
Off the shelf simply would not do so the owner had the wheels re-barreled to 15 x 8 +12.3 specs.
Not exactly front wheel drive friendly offset there!

The show and shine section offered everything from VIP styled cars to full blown dragsters.

The recurring theme was attention to wheels, so not surprising at all that the Built to Order boys had wheels on nearly every single car!

This MX5 got a lot of looks, it’s been a long time since we have seen one of these roadsters in any colour other than red!

These Corolla’s were hiding in the pack, big fan of the over fenders on the white one!!

This white S15 pushed the boundaries of dished rear wheels, the sticker on the window really hit the nail “I got 99 problems, but fitment ain’t one.”

The MR2 is a true underdog amongst Japanese ‘tuner’ cars, with some Ferrari like styling and a mid mount engine it’s always ticked some boxes for the boy racers but never really appealed to the masses.
This SW20 model on Work Meister’s is a more then a step in the right direction, the aggressive body kit and wheel choice breath some fresh air into the early 90’s coupe.

Purple wheels get all the bitc… ah hmm er, ladies.

Bronze Volk CE28’s and the blue details make this Silvia a winner, the number plates are epic too!

This tiny van was unlike anything else at the show, the Suzuki Carry Van’s engine had been replaced by a completely electric motor thanks to some extensive and clever work by Mark Taylor from Sydney AEVA.

Oliver’s S15 has become quite the internet sensation after having being shown on speedhunters and a few other blogs, the car did not disappoint us in the flesh at all!

There was also a touch of euro in the mix, this classic VW was a perfect blend of old and new styles with influences from the current trends…

Like the sticker bombed details around the tail lights and wider wheels finished the older bug of nicely!

Tessa whyte’s yellow R34 had a crowd of photographers around it at nearly all times, the car caused quite the stir moving from the pits to the show and shine area.

While it is not the main attraction of the event it really is nice to see that it got a lot more attention this year and the cars on display were all extremely unique or had an impeccable level of detail when it came to modifying them.
The crowd seemed to be a lot more involved with a lot more spectators taking a break from the deafening race cars to come by and check out some of Sydney’s street scene.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for a few more WTAC related posts still coming.
– Gwyn.
Sunday was the final day for the Forum Battle weekend, the show and shine event was all that was left to decide the winning car forum.
Heading to Calder park at 7am it was still raining, so we were unsure how the day would pan out.
Luckily the sun started shining and almost immediately the ground quickly dried up.

Our latest feature car, Pond’s GT-R Nur. Getting all shiny after a very wet drive to the track.

Check out that professional looking banner!

Plenty of different car makes under the gripshiftslide banner, Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Daihatsu and Subaru.

Mark’s crazy clean R31 had a few people stopping to see what was what.

Isaac’s stupidly low S15, this thing is intense! The judges gave Isaac a win and he scored a Zen Garage tee.

Some of the drift demo cars were left to cool down after their only show on Sunday, Vic Drift put on a hell of a show despite the weather. More on the drift demos later this week.

MelbS15 club had a descent turn out for the show, this subtlety kitted S15 stood out…

…Thanks to an interesting wheel choice, you don’t often see a Silvia ‘tucking’ the rear wheels.

Melb S15 club didn’t just have Silvia’s on show, there was two nice Supra’s and a Skyline.

A sneaky S14 hanging out in the pack, It looked great on a set of black Meisters.

Strange wheels on this S15, would love to know how it ‘scored’ that battle damage.

One of the winners from the S15 club, Renee’s beautiful grey Silvia. She scored a set of brake pads, not too shabby!

Some of the guys from the S15 club got restless and started sliding around their ‘RC’ Drifter.

It seems even remote control cars are riding hard, check out that offset!

One of the highlights was this Holden Astra with a blackboard paint bonnet, Zen Garage got in quick!

By lunch the sky was looking a lot better for the show and shine, and soon it was too hot!

Very, very clean late model Astra.

One of only two AE86’s at the show, both were spotless!

Crazy aero package on this sexy black Supra, These JAK motor works cars are popping up everywhere!

Gareth’s tough daily MX-5.

One of the wildest Evo’s in town, Givan has just put a new set of Work Emotions on and it looks great!

Mark’s R31 managed to score a win for the team and got a few freebies from the Zen Garage crew.

Another win for the team was Michael’s RX Impreza, his car’s built for the track but can be slammed lower than the rest of ’em.

In this setup you literally can not fit a finger between the tyre and the guard, I even tried a credit card… No luck!

The Mighty Car Mods “Blue Turd” still wearing some mud from the gymkhana session the day before.

Kebab pride! The infamous “Kebab Hunters” sticker.

Agis from Insane Drifters checking over the engine before the car gets loaded up and towed home.

Easily the biggest team at Forum Battle, Skylines Australia had more cars competing than anyone else.

Bringing with them some very impressive and rare cars, like two Nur spec R34’s and this gorgeous GT-R.

The Rays TE37 SL’s looked amazing on this R34. People were staring all day long!

In terms of ‘cool’ nothing came close to this C110 Skyline, It was absolutely pristine and very heavily modified!

Packing an RB26 swap and brakes bigger then a small house, this thing would move very fast!

Some of the other Skyline Australia entries included this immaculate R32 GT-R and a very cool DR30 Skyline.

One of the only domestic cars to enter was this built XR6 Falcon, The owner got to take home a trophy which makes it all worthwhile.

The Skyline boys gathered in the rally starting grid for a display while the group received their club trophy.

The team took out the overall win for the very first Forum Battle.

Thanks to some crazy cars, crazy driving and some of the most dedicated guys and girls in the car scene.

With all the cars lined up it was time for some shots, only something was missing…

Models! Here you can see me concentrating and carefully aligning my shot of the girls…

And here’s the actual shot, magic!

Ash from SAU accepting his trophy and a pose with the Just Car promo girls.

The man behind the event with one of the Zen Garage boys, busy working the awards around the chaotic rally championship.

Marty from Mighty Car Mods proud of his trophy for the Gymkhana session, Marty took out one of the front wheel drive awards for the session.

Congratulations to everyone that won a prize and a big thanks to everyone who attended, it was a great way to finish up an awesome weekend of cars, rain and more cars.
There will be a write up on the full weekend coming soon!

Thanks for reading,
The Vic boys and girls from SAU put on a show ‘n’ shine event down at the Docklands in Melbourne over the weekend, before I made it into the event I was stuck looking at this very clean Nur Spec R34 for quite some time…

Sitting perfectly on some Rays CE28N Genesis, this car was beautiful!

Not far from the R34, was one of Melbourne’s toughest R32 GT-Rs. Sometime later I eventually made it into the show.

The event itself was fairly small however the quality of cars on show was fantastic and there was plenty of variation.

From the simply clean.

To the ruff and tough.

Looking down the line-up of the usual suspects.

I kept coming back to this R34, incredibly well put together and the F1 style mirrors made it!

Oh my…

Check out those brakes!!

Love it or hate it, sticker bombing is here to stay! I personally like a bit of tasteful bombing.

A Mitsubishi Evo found its way into the Skyline show, it looked so good that nobody seemed to care.

Melbourne’s Docklands provided a great backdrop.

Cars on show ranged from Street, JDM to full blown track cars like this ‘Bathurst R32 Skyline’.

Also in the racing corner we had the Red Bus R33, you may remember it from the recent Track Battle at Calder Park.

I have never seen Enkei RPF’s on a Skyline before but somehow it just works.

One very serious Onevia, daily driven too!

Pretty in pink and black?

Oh Herro!

A truly perfect GT-R, if I owned an R32 it would look pretty much just like this.

This R34 looked angry and hungry, almost like it could devour people as they passed by.

Needless to say, I kept my distance from it’s mouth.

It doesn’t get much better then this, V-Spec II Nur edition. only 750 made and three showed up for this event!

The heart of any Skyline, the mightyRB26.
It was great to see modified cars on show in a public place like this, in such terrible times for owners of modified cars it’s great to show the care and pride most owners have for these cars. Great work by the organisers!
I hope more of these events can happen next year, owners of modified cars need to change the opinions of the public before it’s too late and they are all banned.
Thanks for reading,
– Gwyn.

November saw Melbourne’s 1st annual classic Japanese car show, hosted by the Toyota Car Club
of Australia, Victoria. The event’s proceeds went to BeyondBlue to help fight depression, with 120+ cars on display the show was a massive success!

All the cars attending were manufactured before 1986, some of the ‘modern’ classics had some interesting cosmetic mods…

The true classic of our generation, the Toyota Sprinter.

Nardi’s seemed to be the wheel of choice.

Cressida wagon with functional roof racks, does it get much better?

A few rides had some wild engine conversions…

Like this Datsun’s SR20DET engine swap.

Mustang design cues?

Some cars didn’t have much in the way of looks from the factory to attract the younger enthusiasts…

Carefully choose some wheels and some accessories and bam! your car suddenly stands out from the crowd.

While this is not everyone’s cup of tea, I think the owner did a great job fusing the classic and current styles together.

One of the more modified cars at the event was this orange KE70 Corolla, I think someone stole it’s suspension tho.

I kind of miss all the chrome trims of yesteryear.
The R30 Skylines are increasing in popularity with young modifiers, thanks to some beautiful examples popping up on the net.

There were more pride building cars in those days, unfortunately most Japanese car makers have lost their way…

With quirky cars and loads of character, becoming a thing of the past.

The interior of this Toyota Century stole the show, complete with a TV and electric windows – all factory fitted!

And it’s official now… every car is at least 11% better with fender mirrors!

Now a Trueno coupe is truly a rare sight here in Australia.

One of the few Mazda’s at the event, this Rx-7 may have been a bit too wild for most. We liked it a lot!

Rear facing back seat in a wagon… no wonder people stopped going to the drive-in movies, they stopped making the right cars to go in!

One of the most tastefully modded cars at the show.

This Datsun killed it with a perfect wheel choice and ride height.

A very subtle and clean Levin hatch, I hope some 90’s cars will be kept this clean over the next 10-2o years.

This may have been lost on some of the older show goers…

I wish there were more tough utes like this, a little rat rod influence goes a long way.

Just like the FJ Holden this Isuzu shares a large detailed red horn, this type of detail is just not seen anymore.

All I can say is nice paint!

“Dad can I have one?” This looks like an advert from the late 70s.

With so many cars fighting for attention, it was hard to concentrate on one car

Seat belts, who needs them? Wait, what?! They can save my life! I better read this manual to see how.

Datsun, the car of the 80s, 180b’s were so common! This was the first time I had seen one in the last 7 years.

This clean datsun 1600 was in show room condition!

Classic Japanese cars always pull the chicks!

The crown, what more can you say.. its awesome!

One of the most beautiful cars ever designed by Mazda.

If only cars came like this from factory!
