Unfortunately I showed up to the dyno day very late, after spending to much time at motoclassica i finally arrived. I was surprised and happy to see that there were still cars waiting to get on the dyno so late in the day.

The SW20’s seemed to dominate the line up of mr2’s at chassers motorworks. Many sporting the classic Bomex front bar. A lot of people were chasing the 200kw mark, it is a hard one to break in the SW20, some manage to do it but most sit around the 160-180kw.

5 spoke wheels suit the SW20, commonly know as the poor man’s 355 Ferrari, the sw20 is the prettiest of the Mr2 range.
It was great to hear some 3sgte’s revving off their heads on the dyno and this also gave the MR2 forum members time to compare mods and set-ups.

Its good to see some “P” platers buying mr2’s, rather than commodores. The Toyota MR2, its a true driving experience, mid engined and well balanced, so much fun to drive even if you only have the NA version.

This is a great example of the MRS, nice Work XD9’s wheels, porsche style front bar and a custom turbo set up that would make baby Jesus cry.

The targa style sw20 is by far the most popular version of the SW20 and although i wished for one in the summer, i was glad to have had a hard top version in the winter.

There were some great examples on display and this late model SW20 on te37’s is a killer, with a gen3 3sgte.

It did very well on the dyno, with a solid figure and bullet proof performance this is one of my favourite cars on the day.

I miss having pop up headlights and i miss the beautiful shape of the MR2. The only thing i do not miss is working on the engine in the cramped engine bay, especially the gen2 3sgte, try and change the oil filter and you will most likely loose all the skin on your knuckles.

The interiors of the 1990’s mr2s are very similar to the supra of that era with a slightly turned console and a high centre arm rest that really makes changing gears a pleasure. What happened to fighter jet inspired interiors?

There was not only MR2s at this dyno meet but there were also a variety of other cars including this GT4 Celica.

The only standard looking mr2 in the parking lot and it still looks as fantastic as it would have leaving the factory. It is great to see some standard ones still on the road, if they are kept in good nick they will end up being a desirable classic car in another 20 years time.

One of the most popular mods “Gen 3 tail lights” adds an instant facelift to the car and a touch of style.

From a distance you can see this well looked after aw11, the only one in the car park when i arrived, good to see the complete set of mr2’s were in attendance.

Apart from missing most of the Dyno day and only catching the tail end of the day, i still enjoyed seeing a good variety of MR2’s and recognizing some of the cars that used to be around when i owned an mr2.
It is a shame that the MR2 goes through waves of popularity, and does not have that constant following that the AE86 or supra shares.
Earlier this month Chasers Motorworks ‘eastside division’ McGlone St Mitcham celebrated their second birthday, inviting loyal customers and friends along for a free feed and a few drinks to mark the occasion.

The weather was perfect with around 60 cars and 100 people coming out to enjoy the sunshine and awesome company.

Unfortunately a Vicdrift Members day was on at the same time and so a few people could not be in attendance.
But this didn’t discourage everybody else from joining in the festivities.

What is Chasers Motorworks Eastside?
Chasers Motorworks – Eastside Division began in April 2010 after Manny Su successfully negotiated an agreement with the already established Chasers Motorworks Dynon Rd (in West Melbourne). Bosses Glenn Trollope and Paul Flourentzou agreed that an eastern suburbs workshop would be mutually beneficial to both entities.

Together they would be able to provide excellent service, tuning and advice for a wider audience in the Melbourne car community.

Over the years there have been many people requesting to be a part of the Chasers Motorworks group, however they have all been turned down as the current owners felt that they either lacked an understanding of what their brand is all about or didn’t have the same passion or determination in cars/motorsport needed to succeed.

Fortunately for Manny, they agreed to allow him to operate an eastern suburbs based workshop, which marks an unprecedented event of having two performance workshops under the same banner.

Manny has been in the car street scene since 1998 and has experienced many of the huge events of yesteryear as well as having experienced the different styles of products and servicing on offer from many of the established workshops; most of which are still around today.

When a series of incidents led Manny to the capable hands of Paul Flourentzou (dyno tuner, ex Motec engineer) at Chasers Motorworks Dynon road, Paul tuned Manny’s personal s15,

Being so impressed with the level of service at Chasers westside, Manny wanted to start a car workshop which could provide the same level of service to the potential customers in the eastern suburbs.

What does Chasers Motorworks do?
Both divisions offer servicing, in-house tuning and race preparation and modifications.
Both workshop also follow this simple code of practice…
“Quality work, as quickly as possible, always keeping the customer informed, at an affordable price” – Manny

Chasers Motorworks are very seriously into the time attack scene with several cars (EVO 6, EVO 8, R32 GTR and an Audi TT) attending and placing very well in the “World Time Attack Challenge 2011” (Eastern Creek, NSW).

This year in August they will again vie for the title of fastest Pro Class car in Australia and are currently putting in a huge amount of effort to make that happen.

You will regularly see their cars or customers cars driving at local tracks like Philip Island and Sandown. For those that regularly race at Winton, you may have even seen Manny setting some respectable times in his own S15, which also made an appearance at the recent ARC Forum Battle.

So, if you love cars, or would like information on how to get onto the track, you should speak to one of the guys at Chasers and they will be sure to help.

If you are lucky enough to attend WTAC 2012 this year, come and say hello to the boys track-side.

I would like to thank Manny for taking the time to talk to us about his successful workshop.
