Toyota Car Club of Australia Victoria hosted a demo motorkhana event at Toyota headquarters. If that wasn’t enough they also invited the 86/BRZ club and mr2 club to display their cars for a small show n shine.

This classic Toyota Corona was the first thing to grab my attention. With an interior that is not created out of plastic and some shiny bling highlights this little Corona looked the part.

If you’re an SW20 fan then you should appreciate how clean this one is. The Mr2 club bought out some of its finest examples to put on display here at Toyota.

Only Japanese royalty drive cars like these so I was very surprised when I saw one in the flesh. The 3rd generation Toyota Crown was known as the Super Deluxe Sedan and was Toyota’s classy ride of the time.

A car that is seriously becoming a collectors item is the Nissan Fairlady Z. It is one of the stand out cars of the last 50 years and Adam has carefully restored this Datsun to its full glory.

I could not take my eyes of this amazing car. It was perfect; siting on coilovers and wearing 15 inch RS Watanabes!

There were plenty of clean engine bays on display. It was hard to know which engine bay to dedicate my attention to.

Not only was there old Toyotas on display there were also some slightly more modern examples showing the old timers how its done.

I had never seen this type of tailight on the 86 before and I was more surprised to find out that they are made by Buddyclub.

The BRZ club turned up to display their cars and sit back to watch the motorkhana action unfold.

This WRX was driven by a motorkhana champion who definitely had some serious skills. I couldn’t believe how much punishment this car took while he redlined 1’st gear all day long.

This mighty Corona was one of the most entertaining cars of the day. Although the car is thirty plus years old it still made it round the cones faster than many of the more modern cars.

The crowd was really enjoying the motorkhana spectacle and this little boy was glued to the action like a moth to a flame.

James took the chance to shake down his new car by taking passengers around the course while working on the setup of the car. Because the day was casual with no real time pressure people had time to fiddle with their cars in between sessions.

The best thing about this open day was the fact that the public had the opportunity to experience the action first hand! This really put a smile on the face of almost everybody who was lucky enough to get a ride.

Along with the normal cars there were some specialized motorkhana cars which are designed to be light, nimble and fast. This one was known as the “Sweet sixteen” featuring a Toyota 4AFE 1600 engine and a big set of brakes made from many different cars.

The variety of cars on course showed the public that you don’t need a supercar to compete in this sport. As long as you can steer your way through some cones and purchase some low level safety gear you are good to go.

It does not matter how old you are you can still enjoy motorsport! This motorkhana special only weighed 340kg. It also had a nifty little trick for stopping; with a small set of wheels at the front to stop the car from flipping forward during heavy braking.

Minis have always been a good choice for this type of event. With their short wheel base and nimble handling they make for a fun platform.

Specialized motokhana cars can often look more like an experimental car than a racing pocket rocket. As the crowds came and went you could tell that people were really enjoying the action on track.

With lots of cars on display and action on track the general public was treated to a fantastic free event. This AW11 was one car that stopped me dead in my tracks. Everything on this car was well balanced while being super functional.

The collaboration between a car club and manufacturer is something more clubs should try to achieve. Not only does it raise awareness about the club but it also changes up club events from your standard track day or car meet. TCCA is really doing some great work in the automotive community and we cannot wait to see what they come up with next.

SAU :: September DECA Day

Once again Skylines Australia Victoria return to DECA to battle it out over 3 different courses in one big day of Motorkhana action.
Many members of the SAU made a whole weekend out of the event which meant not much sleep but lots of driving and plenty of crazy nights!

The day was hosted by a Skyline club so I was very surprised to see this supercharged Lotus screaming down the track, it was quick, I mean really quick! The sound it made was fap’tacious!

Sean’s battle scared S14 has been to nearly every event in Melbourne this year so it is no wonder it has a few wounds showing, it’s clearly all cosmetic as it was still going flat out on the skidpan!!

This was the only Supra on the day, the number plates are no joke!

Here Ash shows us how you avoid a group of ducks on the track, you drift around them!!
Even though you cannot actually see any ducks in this photo he insists they were there!

Sw20 MR2 looking great with full Bomex kit and some sleepy eyes, I was very happy to see one of my favorite cars in action on the track.

This Stagea did well to navigate the back course, considering the track was quite skinny and the Stagea is… well not exactly skinny its self!

Aaron from Import Monster’s new Toyota 86, hooking a turn and pulling some serious G’s.

Some say that the new 86 doesn’t have enough power from factory, this picture of the little coupe getting a bit sideways tells another story.

Head to head, These two Toyota 86’s had some great battles throughout the day.
After reading countless reviews on the 86 it seems the little sports coupe lives up to all of the expectations on the tarmac, the car performs effortlessly and both the drivers had the biggest smiles from behind the wheel of their brand new purchases.

They look amazing in contrast to the white paint, most likely the only guy in Victoria to have a set of these.

Battle time! Easily the best part of any Motorkhana event, everybody love’s to watch the battles and cheer on their mates as they navigate the tight course.

Jacquii pushing incredibly hard in her S13, luckily the navigator was there to help point her in the right direction.

If you hit a cone you have to put it back! But where is the right spot?

Some call him the king of deca others call him leon, you can see him here as an orange blur in the background.

The SAU club has a large following and always put on a great event at DECA.

Yeah you know it! A Chaser leaving a wall of white smoke so he can get the upper hand in this battle.

Going in with full commitment, takes a lot balls and insanity.

A mean looking R33, getting a bit loose on the debris on the skid pan.

A P’ plater with mad skills, hitting the corner like a pro!..

… linking corners with out loosing to much speed.

This Elfin MS8 looks like one hell of a handful, super exciting exciting to watch on the track.

So much power in such a little package!

From the side profile you can see exactly how tiny this car really is, huge brakes, big engine and small wheel base make for lots of fun!

There was also a small handful of the classic AE86’s out on track.

A Datsun triple SSS Stanza that just got faster and faster every run he completed.

All credit has to go to the organisers and volunteers at SAU for putting together such a flawless event.
We have been to DECA Sheparton many times this year and its always a great day out.

EXE Crew :: DECA Day Out

A few times a year the exe crew get together and organise a full day of ball tearing Motorkhana action, for many; this is a great test of their own skill and an ultimate stress test for their beloved machines.

You don’t need a full on racecar to participate, this vtec jazz holds its own against its bigger brothers.

Drifting gets you bonus points with the crowd! but does not always pay-off on the clock.

Hard cornering is a great way to test your tipping point.

One very clean looking Mark II, Harley put together one amazingly solid car, and stayed hard on the gas the whole way around the course, the car did not miss a beat.

There was a good variety of FWD car on the day and this little micra had some very close competition.

Last time i saw this micra it was sideways at winton, always being driven incredibly hard by Tom, he managed to win 2nd place in the FWD category.

No this truck is not a member of the exe crew, while all the action was going on within the skidpan, Deca training continued on around the exe crew.

It always pays to have a navigator especially when the course is full of orange cones! i mean which one should you go for! from a spectators view it is hard enough let alone for the driver.

This silvia has some serious character, such an aggressive front camber set up! so aggressive that it scared off all the small children in the surrounding area.

The track component of this Motorkhana was a great place for people to further certify the skills they had gained on the skidpan.

Unfortunately sometimes cars do hit their breaking point and this lonely nissan was waiting for the current track session to stop so they could try to get it fixed and back out there.

Love the wheel choice and fitment! enough said!

If only this mx5 had parked closer to the puddle!

When i saw these seat doilies i knew this was a serious ride! with bad “intentions” it seems Charlie is brining it back! keeping the eighties alive!

No track day is complete without the legendary hachiroku!

Even know this was built in the 90’s does not mean it has lost all of its poke! Daniel piloted his silvia to take out 1st place on the day! Allot of people expected one of the new toyota 86’s to be the victor but it wasn’t the case.

It was now battle time and cars were lining up for a chance to race each other for the prize.

A classic car that is not just a show pony!

It was great to see this 260z racing on the skidpan! didn’t think i would ever see one on a track considering how rare they now are.

This was a pleasure to watch! and the amount of power this old JZX71 had was incredible.

Import Monster – SAU & DECA :: Motorkhana Shepparton

Shepparton put on some great weather, with a strong attendance and a truck load of orange cones this event was definitely on. The 2nd ROUND of the 2012 DECA CHAMPIONSHIP hosted by import monster and Skylines Australia forum was about to begin, this being my first motorkhana I was unsure what to expect.

Skid pans are just the place to sharpen up your drift skills, even if you are competing in a motorkhana.

Nissan was out in force, showing why their Motorsport history is so rich.

The motorkhana event provides a great chance for the SAU members and guests to meet and greet.

A great example of the legendary r32.

Even know some of these cars are in top notch condition they all get a serious workout.

S15 front and S14 back, this is one hot looking halfcast!

Needs more gauges!!

With an eye on the prize, and evaluating the competition, many drivers would study others technique and braking points.

Probably the best performer of the day was Leon in his very loud 180sx, awesome drift skills and amazing car control! while still being fast!

Some time its ok to have a dirty bum :}

Talk about balls! this car drove from NSW to compete and was driven back the very next day.

This tuff looking panda was aggressive the whole day.

Not even a puddle could stand in the way of a good time.

One of my favourite cars of the day was this Toyota Corona, it was working hard all day and didnt seem to miss a beat.

Full commitment every time, this bloke had no fear and would push it to the edge all day long.

EVo’s always look at home on the track!

Leon has spent a lot of time on this car, he gave hell to it all day and the crowd just loved it.

The place started to look a little like Easter Nats after a while.

This is the view from the other end of the skid pan where the battles and other motorkhana events took place.

Competition on the skid pan was fierce.

R33 show down!

180sx against Holden Astra, is that really fair?

This is one of Lloyds great launches, this little AW11 has still got punch even after 20 years.

Believe it or not this is a female driver getting this Evo up on 3 wheels hard into a corner.

Not really sure if he is focusing on the map stuck to the windscreen or on the track?

There were some P platers with serious skills and little to no clearance rocking the track.

Serious cars! and fun competition.

One of the most impressive things about this motokhana was the amount of effort people would go to, not only to compete and just have their cars finished in time but also preform as one man pit crews.
With standard cars right up to serious track monsters, there is a place for everybody in this sport.
You don’t have to be ken block to compete, all in all a great event and well worth checking out.
