One of the first items on my bucket list is a simple one, own an E46 M3 BMW.
Even after all these years, that lovely looking, highly enhanced body looks fantastic from all angles.
The bolstered chunky arches hinting at the performance hidden beneath the bulging bonnet and the four exhausts tips menacingly poking out from under the rear bar…
Oh sorry, I seem to have gotten a bit carried away there….
Before my love affair with the modern E46 BMW, I had a brief fling with the now classic 318i E30.
Granted it wasn’t a manual (although it was a convertible) the car felt correct. It felt taught, well constructed and just made me feel happy in general.
As I have grown older, cars have come and gone from my life but the little E30 has always held a special place in my heart.
So when the team from GSS contacted me with a bunch of photos and I just had to be involved and this is where Denis and his more than standard E3o BMW come in.
The boys behind The Lowdown.com and Sydney’s uber successful car show ‘Showcased‘ decided to go from one extreme to another.
They’ve gone from organising one of the most hyped and planned events on the calendar to one of the most casual street car meets in recent history.
Their previous work with the Showcased car show saw a multi level car park in Sydney’s CBD get closed off and then filled with the best cars from all over. With months and months of planning in the lead up to the big day and then with less than 48 hours notice, the team decided to get everyone together and opted for something a bit more ‘low’ key. If you missed The Australia day drift festival now is your chance to see all the action. 16 special guest drivers were invited to christen the new south circuit at Sydney Motorsport Park along with the All Stars car show this event was epic!
Well it was the end of the working year for the lucky-some (my self included) and I was coaxed into attending only my second Downshift meet for the year, I think even the first one I didn’t even take my own car to. But none the less, it’s quite stunning to see the exponential growth of this event. You see threads and photo’s scattered over the forums post-event, but it’s just not the same, you have to be here to really appreciate how far this has come.
Myself and a few friends arrived relatively early, which is quite rare, but since I haven’t used my a camera since my last post on GSS back in 2011 I really did require a bit of warm-up work. So I started the day down from the main entry gate, turned out to be quite a nice spot! Read more
It is Christmas break up time of year again and the CCRMIT club was lucky enough to score the haunted hills hill climb track for their end of year ‘come and race’ fun day. With a less than desirable weather forecast, things did not look promising. Read more
Last Sunday marked the end of year for the JDM Style Tuning Melbourne family and after such an up and down year for these meets, organisers were unsure how another large meet near the city would go.
Thankfully everyone was well behaved and the day was a smashing success!
Last month, GSS visited Japan for the Ebisu G1GP and Autumn Matsuri for the trip of a lifetime.
I set off in the early hours of the morning for Melbourne Airport, and off we went.
After being awake for over 36 hours, two flights, a lot of waiting, and catching trains, we headed straight for our hotel rooms and called it a day.
The next morning saw some sneaky shopping opportunities, then yet another train ride, which took me way up north into the small town of Nihonmatsu. This was to be our central hub for the next week at Ebisu circuit… Read more
Late on a friday afternoon i got the word there was going to be a gathering of some of Melbourne’s best s15′s at dfo essedon. Upon arriving i was impressed with the range of silvia’s and s14′s that where on display.
Nissan have always saved something special for models branded with the “Z” and the 370z is no exception, there isn’t a line or curve out of place on this car. It is the better looking younger brother of the 350z, the one that goes to the gym and drinks nothing but protein. Read more
With planning left to the last second the meet nearly didn’t go ahead this month.
A few days before the end of the month someone decided to announce that the meet was on and just like that, a few days later we saw over 100 cars mix it up under Melbourne’s iconic Bolte bridge. Read more
Ryan Cumings is a name some will know and others are only just beginning to hear about. However after a very successful year in 2011 and his performance in the 2011 ADGP series in his amazing black S13, he is sure to become a household name.
We managed to catch up with Ryan and his car earlier this year.
Despite our struggle to think of a location we could use for the shoot, given that the car is completely dedicated to track use and is unregistered, we decided what better place to use than the iconic Bolte Bridge in South Melbourne, with loads of room and hardly any attention we moved this black beauty around with ease!
So this is the much anticipated story about Ryan and his wide body S13.5 Silvia… Read more
Today the boys and girls from Hardtuned.net held a charity cruise from the Docklands to Lysterfield Lake, I managed to wake up early enough to attend the meeting point.
The weather was less then perfect and for a while on the freeway heading in I thought about turning around and heading home!
Luckily I didn’t, as the turn out was huge with around 50+ of Melbourne’s finest JDM rides rocking up for the event.
