100MM Car ShowStance Car Show

Just over two weeks ago we received a phone call from the Sydney All Stars crew saying they would be coming to Melbourne and we should host a big meet up!
With the excitement of co-hosting a big meet with our pals from over the border, we got busy making calls and had a location booked with just a week until the date when of course -  disaster struck!

Our first venue had double booked us so and we needed to either cancel altogether or relocate! So it was back to the phone to find an alternative, that was when we called up the ever faithful Caribbean Market in Melbourne’s east. After our last very successful event there, they were more than happy to have us back with just a weeks notice!!

Formula Drift Asia :: Melbourne 2013

Mad MikeFD Asia

Last month Melbourne was blown away by one of the biggest events of it’s kind, Formula Drift Asia (FD).  FD crossed the seas and arrived on our shore to set up camp at Melbourne’s Calder Park Raceway with quite literally the biggest names in drift motor sport.  They were all set to compete as the worlds eyes were on this humble little garden state at the bottom of Australia.

If that wasn’t enough to wet your drifting taste buds, Melbourne goers were treated to a full round of drift battles the day before FD thanks to the Australian Drifting Grand Prix (ADGP) who were a massive piece of the puzzle for this monumental event.
You can check out all the action from our ADGP post coming soon (watch this space).

Melbourne’s car scene can be quiet at times, seeming like it goes into hibernation with months sometimes passing between car shows and events that are worth noting on your calendar. Rewind to the last weekend of April and Melbourne was the worst place to be for a young car enthusiast. Not only did you have the option of visiting Calder Park Raceway for the Australian Drift Grand Prix for a full day of intense drift battles with demo runs from top international drivers for the Formula Drift event, you also had the Mighty Car Mod boys in town hosting a very large car meet! Competing with all of this were the new kids on the block… 100MM and their car show/festival ‘Certified’.

Honda Nationals 2013 :: The Power Of Dreams

Comments

When it comes to Honda owners they’re usually considered the ‘black sheep’ of the car community and often shunned by other modified car owners for being too extreme with their love for all things Honda and their endless ramblings about the benefits of that magical thing known as VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control).

So what happens when you invite all of these fanatics to one race track in regional Victoria located close to the NSW boarder? You get some of the most intense Honda build this country has to offer, some 110db of ear piercing, valve bouncing, limiter bashing adrenaline and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet at a racetrack!

Vic Drift :: April Practice Day

V8 S13 DriftVic Drift

The boys and girls of Vic Drift were at it again last week hosting another practice day, this time at Calder Park.
This had originally been planned as a two day event, but with lower entries than normal there was a push for it to be culled back to only one day much to everyone’s disappointment.

Btu not to worry, as there was still plenty of people willing to get behind the wheel for the one day event and they helped to make the day a huge success and a lot of fun for everyone involved.

F1 Melbourne :: Shell x Ferrari Practice Day

Comments
Drift MatsuriF1 Ferrari

The F1 Grand Prix is arguably the largest motoring event in the world and I feel ashamed to write that I have never actually sat down and watched an entire race and have never been to the race hosted in my very own city… How can I even call myself an enthusiast?!

Well this all changed for me just over a week ago, whilst I was sitting down in front of my computer (much the same as every other spare minute not spent at my 9-5 or at another car event) I received an email notification and began reading…

“Hi Gwyn

On behalf of Shell Australia we’d like to invite you to spend a day
with the Shell and Ferrari team for the F1 on Friday 15 March.”

I also received the same message on our Facebook page and I knew that this was the real deal!
So at the drop of a hat I arranged time off from work and eagerly sent my reply, which of course was  a “YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Drift MatsuriVic Drift Matsuri

So another 12 months has gone by in a flash but in all honesty it doesn’t feel like that long ago since we covered the last Vicdrift Matsuri at Winton Raceway.

What has changed in that time?

There were new cars and fresh builds and of course plenty of familiar faces. All of which were part of the extreme entry competition and even a burnout comp!!!
Hats off to the boys and girls behind Vicdrift pulled off another killer event that saw over 150 entries from drivers all over the country, flocking to try their hand at drifting in what is no doubt one of the best run events in the country. It was two days of non-stop action, burnouts, extreme entries and cash prizes, what’s not to love?

S13 Day Melbourne :: 1-3-13

The LowdownThe Lowdown

Last Friday was a special date on the 2013 calender, it was dubbed “S13 Day” 1/3/2013. Local Nissan enthusiast and all round top bloke Niel Gray from Primal Garage eagerly set about organising a meet for Melbourne S13 owners to come together to celebrate the humble 25 year old chassis.

With a strict S13/180SX invitation only, I opted to go as a passenger in a friends Type X 180SX. This meant I could try my hand at a few rolling shots between the eastern suburbs pre-meet and the final destination, at the Essendon DFO Shopping Center.

ShockworksCorona

So just picture yourself in the following situation: Your Dad owns and runs one of the most reputable suspension businesses in the country and specialises in making cars corner faster and smoother. How would you rebel against him and the family business?

Well it would seem that the best way would be to purchase a 1985 Toyota Corona and then taking full advantage of your Dad’s knowledge and his generous parts catalogue to slam it to the ground!!

Jokes aside though, Chris (the owner of this fine piece of machinery) actually works along side his Dad, Brett, for Shockworks. They are a local company pushing the boundaries of what shock absorbers can do in terms of both comfort and performance!

This Corona is just a way for Chris to have some fun.

ADGP :: All Stars Show

Australia Day was full of festivities for the GSS team as we had traveled North to Sydney for the ADGP drift festival at Sydney Motorsport Park.

On track entertainment included 16 of the countries best drivers battling it out and you can see more of that here.

But what happens if you get bored of cars being driven on the edge, door to door, on a relatively untested drift track?
Well thankfully the team behind the ADGP series invited the local All Stars crew along to host a car show right next to the action.

The All Stars gang proved once again that Sydney is at the forefront of the Australian modified car scene with the latest trends and ideas taking off here first, long before any other states followed suit…
